About Me
Amanda Marsh – Writer/Journalist/Photographer/Etc.
I’ve always had a hard time defining who I am. Writing an “About Me” seems a bit unreasonably because, the truth is, my hobbies, interests and passions are constantly changing. I love to explore new creative outlets and have dabbled in embroidery, watercolour and digital design. My current artistic passion is definitely digital illustration, and it feels like this love is going to stick around for a while. I enjoy nothing more than seeing a piece transform from a concept to a polished piece of art. It’s truly a source of immense pride.
My long-time loves include photography, writing and travel. I picked up my first camera at six years old, and haven’t really put it down since – I’ve only exchanged it for better tech. My love of writing also started as a child, I’m pretty sure there are still shoeboxes full of poems and songs I wrote when I was still spelling my own name wrong. I’ve moved on (mostly) from poetry and have grown to love nonfiction writing. I graduated with my BA in Journalism, and am eager to continue learning and growing in this area.
Travel, as a concept, was something I have always been so infatuated by. Even as a child I had a list of things I wanted to see and do in this big, beautiful world. In my adult life, I’ve been able to tick some things of that list. I’ve seen the Austrian alps, visited castles in Transylvania, and wandered markets in Bosnia and Herzegovina. Most of my travel was made possible by a semester abroad I took in spring of 2019. I learned European culture and journalism Monday through Friday in the Netherlands, then was able to jet off on the weekends. I had the time of my life.
While I’m home, I keep myself busy with my creative endeavours, developing new recipes and practicing the art form that is crafting the perfect latté. I’m always looking to grow and add new skills to my resume, so don’t be surprised if I have to tweak this section every couple of months. I just can’t stop pursuing new avenues of joy, fulfillment and purpose.
